Research And PreProduction

The Adventure Begins
We began in the library, where we camped in the biology section and pulled books on taxonomy and some of the major groups that we wanted to create creatures in. As we delved in and learned more about the science of classification, we determined what alien creatures we wanted to make, and more importantly, how to classify them.
Once we settled on basic classifications for our creatures, we set off to the Heard Nature Reserve and Museum for inspiration and reference.

Here is a list of the books that were influential to our research:
-
Biology of the Reptilia Vol. 9 edited by Carl Gans
-
Systematics and the Origin of Species by Ernst Mayr
-
A Textbook of Entomology by Herbert H. Ross
-
Principles of Animal Taxonomy by George Gaylord Simpson
-
Mammalogy 5th Edition by George A. Feldhamer
And here is a YouTube video we also referenced

PreProduction

After doing a bunch of research, we went onward to MidJourney to get some quick art references we could use and mix with the real photo references we took at the museum.
None of the in-game assets are made with AI, only part of the initial concept art was. For more information on the entire design process, click here!
